This past weekend over 3,000 classics, hot rods, and muscle cars descended on the Alameda County Fairgrounds for the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association’s 31st West Coast Nationals presented by Flowmaster. Marked on almost every American horsepower enthusiast’s calendar, the West Coast Nationals are a celebration of American motor cars from the beginning through 1972, drawing out the best from the West.
After walking through the fairground gates, attendees were immediately greeted by a sea of beautiful cars and customs as well as the burbling of engines big and small. Wandering deeper into the grounds, endless droves of stunning classics were found shined up and presented in their very best form. An extensive gathering of vendors showcased all of the products that you know and love for your classic. Peering into the exhibition halls, we found even more to see. This year featured a Concourse d ‘Elegance hosted by the Blackhawk Museum, a Bonneville Speed Display, a Model and Pedal Car Show, and a Pinstriper’s Brush Bash and Auction.
With the model year cap for participants set at ’72 and older, guests were treated to sights, sounds, and smells of days gone by. Additionally, exceptional examples of all style trends ranging from gassers, to pro-street, to pro-touring were found throughout the event grounds. While many award winning cars were in attendance, only one could be named America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod. This year, Buddy Jordan took home the award with his absolutely jaw-dropping “Renaissance Roadster”, a coach-built masterpiece by Steve’s Auto Restorations. Already a Ridler winner, Buddy’s ride continues to solidify its place as a true work of rolling art.
We hope that everyone who spent the weekend enjoying hot rides under the California sun at the 31st West Coast Nats had just as much fun as we did. If you weren’t able to make it out and missed all the action, no need to worry. We’ll see you on the next go-around in November when beautiful vintage American iron returns to Pleasanton for the Goodguys 28th Autumn Get-Together.
